At the 2023 display industry annual conference in Shenzhen on 29 and 30 November, AET deputy general manager Liang Wenji joined the industry leaders’ dialogue, helped release the 2023 fine-pitch and micro-pitch display white paper, and accepted the LED cinema terminal brand of the year award.
Where the Growth Is Coming From
“Display area at P1.2, P1.5 and P1.8 will keep growing,” Liang said. “Shrinking pitch absorbs capacity and changes price. The growth in value comes from new applications: 2022 was strong in VP and XR stages, 2023 in rental and stage, and next year the LED cinema market should perform well.”
The white paper was produced with 36 companies across the chain. AET has contributed to several editions, watching Mini and Micro LED move from concept to volume and from volume into specific applications.
Cinema
AET passed Hollywood DCI certification for two LED cinema screens, in December 2021 and March 2022. Certified 10-metre 4K and 2K screens are now installed in Shanghai, Beijing and Hebei, with more in planning.
Against a century of projection and screen reflection, an LED cinema screen offers advantages in image quality, immersion, service life, energy use, long-term economics and the operating model around it. Audience feedback from installed sites consistently reports a visible difference in fine detail and contrast.
Standardisation
In the leaders’ dialogue, Liang argued that the industry’s move from small to large and from large to strong depends on technical breakthrough and standardisation — and that the sector is shifting from professional and engineering display toward commercial and consumer use, which makes common standards more important, not less.
