What does it take to light an outdoor LED sphere in a country where summer temperatures reach 55 degrees Celsius?
At Avenues Mall, the largest shopping centre in Kuwait, the AET sphere has become the first thing people look at — a moving surface set into the building’s curved structure.
Kuwait is a tropical desert climate: dry, hot, with summer highs around 52 degrees and very little rain. The mall itself is a landmark, built on an irregular steel structure with a strong regional character.
Fitting the Sphere to the Building
AET supplied both the display and the integration, calculating the curvature and arc of the screen against the client’s requirements and the architecture so the sphere reads as part of the building rather than an object placed in front of it.
The screen uses several thousand P5.95 units in 500 × 500 mm cabinets at 8,000 nits, with a 165-degree viewing angle — which is what a sphere needs, since it is seen from every direction. Cabinets are thin and rigid, with full front maintenance.
Protection for the Climate
For local conditions the product is rated IP65 at the front and IP67 at the rear, built from high-grade materials and tested against heat, salt spray and sand. Common-cathode driving and supply control the current precisely, which is what keeps brightness high, colour accurate and energy use low.
Outdoor Sculptural Display
AET supplies spherical, curved and custom-geometry outdoor LED. Send us the structure model and viewing distances for a feasibility study.
